Prepare the first sentence before you get in

Taxi Chinese works best when your destination sentence is short and specific. Useful patterns include 我要去…, 请去这个地址, and 师傅,到这里可以吗. If the place name is hard to pronounce, show the address and say 请看一下这个地址.

Do not start with a long explanation. First confirm the driver understands the destination, then add details such as entrance, hotel name, or subway station exit if needed.

Listen for route, time, and traffic words

Drivers may ask 走高速吗, 走哪条路, or 到哪个门. Prepare simple replies like 都可以, 走快一点的路, or 到南门. These phrases help you avoid freezing when the driver asks a practical follow-up question.

Time and traffic words are especially useful: 大概多久, 堵车, 十五分钟, and 快到了. If you understand only the time estimate, you can still manage the ride calmly.

Handle payment and small misunderstandings politely

At the end of the ride, common phrases include 可以扫码吗, 可以刷卡吗, 发票可以吗, and 在这里下车. If the driver stops at the wrong place, say 不是这里, 麻烦往前一点, or 可以在门口停吗.

A good practice loop should include giving an address, answering one route question, asking about time, paying, and correcting one small misunderstanding. That sequence is closer to a real taxi ride than memorizing separate words.
